CN II (2)

what cranial nerve(s) innervate extrinsic eye muscles?

CN III (3), CN IV (4), and CN VI (6) Hint: extrinsic-originates outside of that anatomical part

what cranial nerve(s) innervate intrinsic eye muscles?

CN III Hint: intrinsic-lies within/belongs to

what cranial nerve(s) innervate neck muscles?

CN XI (11)

what cranial nerve has 5 branches (Temporal, Zygomatic, Buccal, Mandibular, and Cervical) ?

facial nerve

what cranial nerve has 2 branches?

vestibulocochlear nerve

CN I

olfactory nerve (sensory)-funtion: smell

mnemonic: Oh Oh Oh To Touch And Feel Very Good Velvet AH

olfactory, optic, occulomotor, trochlear, trigeminal, abducens, facial, vestibulocochleal, glossopharyngeal, vagus, accessory, hypoglossal.

CN II

optic nerve (sensory)-function: sight

mnemonic # 2:

some say marry money but my brother says big breasts matter more

what cranial nerve has 3 branches (2 sensory and 1 motor) ?

trigeminal nerve

what cranial nerve(s) innervate the major chewing muscles?

trigeminal nerve

CN III

Occulomotor nerve (motor)-function: involved in eye movement, control amount of light going in the eye, and controls shape of lense.

CN V (5)

Trigeminal nerve (mixed)-function: motor-chewing/biting ex.TMJ. sensory: sensations from face and eye. Detection from touch/temp. Forehead to face. Hint: 3 twins

CN IV (4)

Trochlear nerve (motor)-function: involved in movement of the eye by the (superior oblique muscle). Hint: looks like a pully

CN VI (6)

Abducens nerve (motor)-function: sides of the eye ball/moves eye balls to the side by the lateral rectus muscle.

How many pairs of cranial nerves are there?

12 pairs

CN VII (7)

Facial nerve (mixed)-function: motor-facial expression ex. frightened/smile/ salivation (saliva), lacramation (make tears). Sensory-taste (three parts of the tongue (2/3 facial) Hint: damage-crocodile tears syndrome/spontaneous crying.

CN IX (9)

Glossopharyngeal nerve (mixed)-function: motor-swallowing/salivationg. Sensory-taste (back of the tongue), regulates blood pressure/gases,sensation from throat. Hint: glosso-tongue/pharyngeal-throat.

CN XII (12)

Hypoglossal nerve (motor) function: innervates muscles of the tongue (movements).

CN X (10)

Vagus nerve (mixed) function: motor-heart rate , GI tract movements, amount of air in lungs;secretions. Sensory-blood pressure/gases, taste (innervates epiglottis)-taste sensation. Hint: wanderer-if you cut it you will die....

CN VIII (8)

Vestibulocochlear nerve (sensory)-function: hearing/equilibrium
