Associate in Arts
- a degree (60- 61 credit hours) with an emphasis on courses such as English, fine arts, foreign languages, history, philosophy, psychology, or sociology
Universal General Education Transfer Component courses ( UGETC)
- designated courses are guaranteed to transfer and to be applied toward the senior institutions' lower-division general education course requirements
Transfer Assured Admission Policy ( TAAP)
- states that students who earn an AA or AS degree are guaranteed admission to one university in the UNC system, though not necessarily to the school of the students' choice. Must have a "C" or better / cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
Comprehensive Articulation Agreement:
-applies to individual transferable courses -protects students who complete AA or AS degrees applies to all NC Community colleges, all public NC universities & some NC private universities
Bilateral Articulation Agreement (BAA)
-transfer agreement between a specific university & a specific community college. For specific degree programs- applies to degree programs, not individual courses- protects students who complete AAS (associate in applied science) & AFA ( associate in fine arts)

3 options for transfer to Senior institutions (page 42)
No Degree- take a few classes at community college & then transfer to a senior institution- ( has to be a transferable class, college level & earn a C or better The AA & AS Degee- AA ( Associate in Arts) AS = Associate in science Benefit: all of the 60 - 61 credit hours will transfer- you will not have to take lower division general education classes at the University. You will transfer as a Junior.Guaranteed admission to university in the UNC system 3) The AAS & AFA Degrees- AAS (associate in applied science) degrees are not designed for transfer & Associate in Fine Arts degrees prepare students for music, art, & drama Example: paralegal, networking or automotive Technology . AE & AAS in Nursing Degrees ( guides transfer of Associate in Engineering & AAS in Nursing- does not guarantee transfer because engineering is very competitive. Nursing program students must have a C or better

Your prefered method for learning new information. Identifying your learning style is a critical step in metacognition. Taking responsibility for your own learning.
Co-requisite Course-
a course that you must complete at the same time as a required course Example: PHY 110 Conceptual Physics and PHY 110A (Conceptual Physics Lab) must be taken in the same semester
Certificate-
a credential requiring a shorter time commitment from students, specifically 12-18 credit hours Example: hair stylists welding certificate
Diploma-
a credential requiring a shorter time committment from students, specifically 36-48 credit hours
Associate in Fine Arts-
a degree ( 64 hours credit) with an emphasis on courses such as art , drama, or music
Associate in Applied Science-
a degree (64-76 credit hours) that prepares students for a particular career
Associates in Science-
a degree 60- 61 credit hours with a emphasis On courses such as biology, chemistry, engineering, geology, math, or physics
Associate in General Education-
a degree 64 credit hours designed for individuals wishing to broaden their education, with emphasis on personal interest, growth and development
Study tracks:
also list of recommended courses, but they are developed by community college faculty, typically for specific institutions
Pre- Majors :
are lists of courses recommended by NC Community College & University faculty to preprare students for a specific major at the senior institution
Developmental education-
common pre- requisites courses. English & reading & math courses . Course numbers under 100 for example DRE 097. Placement tests may indicate that you have to pass these courses before you can take courses on your Plan of Study. These courses do not count towards Credit hours on plan of study . ( Some students take DMA (math classes) some take DRE (English & reading classes)
Goal Discernment-
deliberate and systematic process of examining yourself and your options to make informed decisions about your future
Work values:
elements of your personal belief system that are fulfilled fromm your career or workplace (Example : if you like to be challenged you would probably be bored with repetitive work)
Pre-requisite-
is one that you must successfully complete before enrolling in a higher level course Ex: you have to take BIO 168 Anatomy & Physiology I before you can take BIO 169
CFNC
learn about applying for colleges, explore majors & programs
Sensory preferences-
learning styles are commonly organized into sensory preferences, visual verbal, kinesthetic and multi-modal.

the number of hours you spend in class each week. For Example: CIS 110 (intro to computers) is 3 credit hours and 4 CONTACT hours . you receive 3 credit hours but you are actually in class 4 hours per week.

Plan of study -
when you are admitted to a specific degree, diploma or certificate program, you will use the program's Plan of Study document to know what courses are required for a credential. Also can be called Course Hour Requirements, currriculum, Curriculum standards, checksheet, Degree plan, Course requirements or Individual Graduation plan
