Relational Database

Sophisticated database that stores multiple collections of data that are related to one another.

Table

The database object that stores the data and is the foundation of a database.

Primary key

The field that uniquely identifies a record in a table.

Report

The object that displays fields and records from a table or query in printable format.

Query

The object that retrieves specific data and then displays only that data

Normalization

The process of applying design rules and principles to ensure the database performs as expected

Common field

Record

A table row that contains all of the categories of data relating to one person place or thing

Flat database

A simple database file that is not related or linked to any other collection of data.

Field

A single piece of information that is stored in every record and represented by a column in a table.

Daya

Facts about people places or things

Data sheet view

The Access view that displays data in columns and rows.

Populate

The action of filling a database with records

Record selector box

The box at the left in Datasheet View that allows you to select an entire record
