Kalahari Desert

A large arid or semi-arid sandy area in southern Africa covering much of Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.

Sahel

A zone south of the Sahara and north of the equator that separates the Sahara from the rainforests.

Congo River

Flows west through central Africa, and is the second longest river in Africa it crosses the equator twice and is surrounded by rainforest.

It is a dormant volcano in Tanzania and the highest mountain in Africa. It rises approximately 4,900 meters from its base.

Great Rift Valley

It is a trench or valley that runs running north to south on the east coast of Africa for around 4,000 miles.The Rift is known for its spectacular scenery and abundant unique wildlife.

Egypt

Large North African country located along the banks of the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The countries capital Cairo is located along the banks of the Nile River.

Democratic Republic of the Congo

Large central African country with coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. This country has large rainforests and the Congo river is located within its borders.

Kenya

Located on the East coast of Africa bordering the Indian Ocean. This country is known for its parks and rich grasslands.

South Africa

Located on the very southern tip of Africa, most of the country is a broad plateau with wide stretches of grassland in its interior.

Atlas Mountains

Mountain range in North Africa that separates the Mediterranean Sea from the Sahara Desert.

Savanna

Rolling grassland with scattered trees and shrubs, it covers almost half of Africa.

Niger River

The main river in the western side of Africa. It is the third longest after the Congo and the Nile Rivers.

Sahara Desert

The world's largest and hottest desert, it covers most of North Africa.

Nile River

World's longest river it flows northward from central Africa into the Mediterranean Sea.
