Shippers

A display that provides a stand alone space for products to be stored and shopped.

ALDI Finds

A limited offering of items that are available until the items are out of stock. Aldi Finds come in every week.

Claim

A memo that is created at the store level informing the warehouse that the pick list was not accurate.

Mixed

A pallet that has mixed items unlike fulls.

Fulls

A pallet that is full of only one type of item. For example water pallets.

Random Weight Items

A price that is determined by the weight of each unit. For example if a turkey is $1.19 per pound a 20 pound turkey would cost $23.80.

Parameters

A setting for the presentation stock and max stock for each item in the CGOS.

Wastage

A term used to categorize product that has been damaged due to mishandling. The store does not get credit for items in the wastage category.

AMS

ALDI Management System. The ALDI guideline for both our work and working relationships.

AME

ALDI Mobile Exchange. A program which allows Executive Level employees gain access to company programs such as email via their cell phone.

Surrounds

Additional signs next to the strip sign. This is used to highlight attention to the product.

ACE

Aldi Center for Education. Computer based training using electronic sign offs, tests and curriculum overview.

Roller Racks

Angled shelves in the cooler and freezer that roll product towards the glass doors/sales floor.

Dunnage Racks

Black backstock racks, about shin height, that are typically used in coolers and freezers.

Freeze-Thaw

Bread and pastry items that are delivered to the store in the freezer section. They remain in the freezer until they can be put out on the sales floor, at that point they are stickered with an expiration date specific to the item.

Fronting

Bringing the cases forward so the cases in the back of the shelf are not higher than the cases towards the front of the shelf.

Edging

Cleaning along the baseboards, table legs, and other edges of the store where the scrubber cannot reach.

CGOS

Computer Generated Ordering System. It uses inventory stock counts and POS information to generate orders and predict future sales.

Balancing/Counting Down

Counting down your till. Balancing your drawer at the end of your shift. It includes making sure your cash deposit is correct and placed in the safe by the manager on duty.

COOL Labels

Country of origin labels. Products made in the U.S. do not require a COOL label.

EFT Terminal

Device at the register which the customer uses to slide their card through process payment.

Tills

Device to hold all money at the register. Each individual is responsible for their own till.

Checklane Blast

Displays that are located at the beginning of the check lanes.

EPW

Emergency Product Wothdrawl. Issued by the FDA, they are more serious than stop sales. All product needs to be pulled from the sales floor the moment the EPW is communicated to the store. It includes products in the possession of customers in the store.

Backstock

Excess stock of items that cannot fit on the sale floor when the truck is thrown.

Go Backs

Items that are left at the registers that need to be returned to the shelf. Usually by a customer who decided not to purchase the item.

LPC

Local Price Change. Price changes locally at the store level. Also known as markdowns.

MMS

Merchandise Management System. Program that keeps track of stock levels for everything in the store.

MDT

Mobile Data Transfer. Hand held device that sends data to and from the individual store and the division.

MDU

Multi Deck Unit. Cooler section without glass doors.

OPC

Official Price Change. Price changes that are set by the corporate office.

Downstacking

Organizing backstock so all like items are together and stacked vertically so each item on the pallet is easily visible.

Pick List

Paper receipt faxed from the warehouse. It lists the items that were delivered and their quantities.

PIP

Perishable Inventory Program. It is sent to stores' MDT's on the 15th and last day of every month. It prompts management to count all perishable items and gives stores a count of their perishable losses.

Strip Sign Molding

Placed on the shelves to hold strips signs.

Level Off

Placing products on shelves flat and even to make it easier to stock new product. Usually done at closing time.

POS

Point of Sale. The scanner systems that tracks how many units are sold of each item throughout the day.

End Cap

Product displayed at the end of each isle. Also distinct displays that are at the end of the ALDI Finds sector.

Boxing

Pulling empty or almost empty boxes of product off the shelf so customers can easily obtain product. 4 points of boxing include that the product is flush horizontally, flush vertically, one partial case and that the sign is correct.

SPMH

Sales Per Man Hour or productivity. This is a number that measures overall efficiency. SPMH is found by dividing total sales for a time period by the total number of hours used in that time period.

Mop Sink

Sink located in the floor, used to empty mop buckets and clean scrubber water. Usually in the back room.

Strip Sign

Small sign that goes below the product.

Spots

Spot Box, Spot Merchandiser. A stand alone set of freezer/cooler units.

Throw the Truck

Taking all the product on the truck from shrink wrapped pallets to the sales floor.

Run Backstock

Taking items from the backstock to the sales floor.

Throw a Pallet

Taking product on the pallet to the sales floor. Anything that will not fit on the shelf needs to be down stacked and organized in the backroom.

Customer Satisfaction Pyramid

The ALDI Program that ensure our day to day operational decisions are primarily towards serving and satisfying our customers.

Presentation Stock

The lowest amount of stock for an individual item that would give a presentable appearance.

Items Per Hour

The measure of overall efficiency during total time at the register. It includes items per minute, tender time, and time between customers.

Maximum Stock

The most amount of stock store management would like in the store.

Double Guarantee

The return policy that is unique to ALDI which allows customers to try our products with no risk. If a customer wishes to return a regular ALDI food or non food item they will receive a similar product and their money back.

Front Display

The special display that is located at the entrance of the store which is filled with Aldi Finds.

Tender Time

The time it takes to tender payment from the time the transaction is totaled and the drawer is closed.

Bossy

The vertical rolling racks that display milk and eggs inside the reach in cooler.

Gripper Sign

This holds the black and white interchangeable signs used for eggs and milk.

Bulletin

This is how the divisional office communicates with all stores on a daily basis. Bulletins are faxed to each store daily and contain a variety of information that must be read and signed off by all employees.

Dated

When a product can no longer be sold by ALDI Policy.

Stop Sale

When corporate office decides and item needs to be pulled off the sales floor and can no longer be sold for the time being. They are faxed to every store and all employees must read and sign off the stop sale.

Partial Inventory

When you take inventory count of a select number of items to make sure the actual stock matches MMS quantities. This makes sure that CGOS orders properly.

WFM

Workforce Management. An acronym used for ALDI payroll system.
