AP, Lat, Medial Oblique Elbow Positioning
Position of part for AP Elbow 3
Have pt lean laterally until humeral epicondyles and anterior surface of the elbow are parallel with plane of IR
Structures shown AP Elbow
AP projection of elbow jt, distal arm, and proximal forearm is shown
Collimation AP Elbow
3 in proximal and distal to elbow jt, 1 in on each side
NOMC 4 view elbow includes:
AP Lateral AP Oblique medial rotation AP Oblique lateral rotation
Position of part for AP Elbow 1-2
Extend elbow, supinate hand, and center to elbow jt Adjust IR to make it parallel with long axis of part
5 Eval criteria for ap elbow
Proper collimation Radial head, neck and tuberosity slightly superimposed over proximal ulna Elbow joint opened and centered to central ray No rotation of humeral epicondyles, coronoid and olecranon fossae approx equidistant to epicondyles Soft tissue and bony trabecular detail.
Position of pt for AP Elbow
Seated low enough where shoulder jt, humerus, and elbow jt in same plane
Position of part for AP Elbow 4-5
Supinate the hand to prevent rotation of bones in the forearm Shield gonads
Central Ray AP elbow
perpendicular to the elbow jt
