AP Psychology Abnormal Case Studies: Conversion Disorder
Cognitive Therapy
Cognitive-Behavior Therapy would be helpful because by using in-depth clinical interview techniques such as writing, thought diary, observation, and questionaries, the therapist will help the client become able to talk and to manage her psychological and physical symptoms
Biomedical Therapy
Electroconvulsive Therapy could be performed to change the chemical make-up of the brain so the client does not experience any more pain, cardiopulmonary, or physical symptoms
Group Therapy
Family Therapy would be helpful because families normally play a heavily role in the client's symptoms. This also would be helpful for the family when they come to terms with the fact that the client is acting this way because they have a mental illness. They may need help with making a transition and continue providing support through the recovery process
Humanistic Therapy
Insight Therapy might be useful for client's with conversion disorder because it could help them by boosting their self-acceptance and discussing the impact of their symptoms
Psychoanalytic Therapy
Resistance; the therapist would go through and see what causes them anxiety from the client's childhood
Behavioral Therapy
Token Economy could be used to help because if the client is experiencing a physical symptom of twitching, you could have them try to use the "mind over matter" phenomenon to have them stop twitching. If they achieve this then they will be rewarded.
