Report

A report is used to present data, typically the result of a query being run. Reports allow you to display summary information such as subtotals, totals, and percentages for groups of records and organize your data in a polished, professional presentation

Site license

Queries

Queries are questions that you ask about your data. For example, you might want to ask: How many customers in Colorado spent more than $200 last year? To receive an answer to this question, you would use a query.

Records

Records are the actual items or entities in a table. An example would be all of the students enrolled in a class; there may be 30. If so, the table would consists of 30 rows, or 30 records.

Reference software

Reference software refers to sources for reference materials such as atlases, dictionaries, and thesauri.

Shareware

Shareware is "try before you buy" software. Unlike software marketed through normal retail channels, where you are forced to pay for the product before you've even seen it, the shareware concept lets you try a program for a period before you buy it.

Skype

Skype communications software can be used to talk using a variety of methods such as text, voice, or video.

Software updates

Software updates can include new or enhanced functionality, new version, patch, and service pack.

Voicemail is a type of messaging service that allows the recording, transferring and storing of recorded messages.

Web authoring software is a category of software that enables the user to develop a Web site.

A macro is a small program that will execute a series of steps.

A Content Management System (CMS) is used to manage the content of a web site.

Learning Management System (LMS)

A Learning Management System (LMS) is a system geared toward the educational and training sector. It is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, and reporting of training programs, classroom and online learning, and training content.

Portable Document Format (PDF)

A Portable Document Format (PDF) is a document format developed by Adobe System that allows authors to exchange documents among different computer systems, while preserving the documents' typography and page layout.

Relational Database

A Relational Database model is one where different tables can be related based on a single common field.

Compact installation

A compact installation will only copy the minimum required by for the program to function. This installation is best if you have limited system resources.

Database

A database can be thought of as an information repository pertaining to a specific topic that allows you to manage, store, retrieve, and analyze information.

Flat file

A flat file is simply a listing of items, but this type of format has many limitations.

Form

A form is an input tool used to enter data into the database. The form you use can be an on-screen representation of a paper form which makes data entry for the end user much easier.

Full installation

A full installation will copy all the files and programs to your hard drive.

Function

A function is a preset formula. Excel has numerous built-in functions to perform various tasks.

Application suite

An application suite consists of multiple applications bundled together. They usually have related functions, features and user interfaces, and are typically able to interact and integrate with each other.

Business software is generally any software program that assists businesses increase productivity.

Multimedia and Graphic software are computer applications, which can process information in a number of media formats including text, graphics, audio, and video.

Open source

Open source software is at the opposite end of the spectrum. The source code is included with the compiled version and modification or customization is actually encouraged.

PIM software is application software that functions as a personal organizer. The purpose of PIM is to facilitate the recording, tracking, and management of certain types of personal information.

Tables are the building blocks of your database as this is where all of your data is stored. Tables are made up of columns and rows.

The intersection of rows and columns in a spreadsheet is a cell.

The term entertainment software is quite broad, however it can be used to describe software geared at entertaining users.

The term service pack, which usually applies to the operating system updates, is a set of patches that correct problems and address security vulnerabilities.

iWork is an application software office suite developed by Apple for OS X and iOS operating systems.
