Identify the organelles labeled on the cell to the right.

A Nucleus B Lysosome C Centriole D Cytoplasm E Cell membrane F Mitochondria

Describe the function of each organelle. Nucleus: Ribosome: Endoplasmic reticulum: Golgi apparatus:

Nucleus: Nucleus controls the cell, it tells the cell what to do. Ribosome: The synthesis of proteins from mRNA. Endoplasmic reticulum: Membrane proteins and secretory proteins with sorting signals. Golgi apparatus: The Golgi apparatus is an organelle grouping together all dictyosomes (formations consisting of stacked saccules or cisterns). It is a compulsory place for the passage of proteins synthesized by the rough endoplasmic reticulum.

Identify the organelles in the cell to the right.

A- Vacuole B- Chloroplast C- Cell membrane D- Golgi Apparatus E- Endoplasmic reticulum F- Cell wall

Describe the function of each organelle. Cytoplasm: Chloroplasts: Cell wall: Centrioles:

Cytoplasm: Is a semi-fluid substance. It is present between the cell membrane and the nucleus. Water is the main component of the cytoplasm. Cytoplasm dissolves in it the molecules released by organelles present in it. It acts as a reservoir for dissolution of molecules not required instantly by the cell to conduct any metabolic activity except lipids. It can dissolve proteins, glucose, etc. Pathways like glycolysis take place in the cytoplasm. Chloroplasts: It is a cell organelle found in plants. The function of the chloroplast is to carry out photosynthesis in plants. It uses pigment which traps the sunlight. It converts the sunlight energy into chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH. Cell wall: It is the semi-permeable layer outside the plant, fungi, algae, and bacteria. Its main function is to provide structural support to the cell. It facilitates the import and outport of molecules in and of the cell necessary for cell function. Centrioles: They are the cell organelles that are visible during the cell division. The centrioles are the sites where the spindle fibers originate. These spindle fibers get attached to each membrane of the chromosome pair and facilitate their separation during cell division.

Describe the function of each organelle. Vacuoles: Lysosomes: Mitochondrion: Cell membrane:

Vacuoles: a cavity in the cytoplasm of a cell that contains inorganic or organic material such as fluid, food, or waste. Lysosome: are organelles that contain digestive enzymes. They digest excess or worn-out organelles, food particles, and engulfed viruses or bacteria. Mitochondria: the "powerhouse" of the cell. They take in nutrients, break it down, and creates energy-rich molecules for the cell. Cell membrane: protects the cell from its surroundings. It consists of a layer of lipid bilayer with embedded proteins.
