Thoracic cavity
Divided into three parts, a pleural cavity on either side and the mediastinum. Contains the heart and lungs
Abdominopelvic cavity
Divided into two parts the abdominal cavity and the pelvic cavity
Diaphragm
Membrane that separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominopelvic cavity
Peritoneal cavity
Surrounds many of the organs in the abdominopelvic cavity
Pleural cavities
Two cavities, each containing a lung
Pelvic cavity
Contains the bladder, some reproductive organs, and rectum
Pericadial cavity
Contains the heart in the pericardial sac
Abdominal cavity
Contains the liver, stomach, kidneys, and other digestive viscera.
Mediastinum
Contains the pericardial cavity and the superior mediastinum
Ventral body cavity
Contains the thoracic cavity and abdominopelvic cavity,
Superior mediastinum
Contains the trachea and the esophagus
