Raising the heartrate too much could be harmful.

Even worse, because there is lack of judgement and impaired thinking, the person does not realize that he or she has had too much and KEEPS DRINKING!!! -Mixing caffeine and alcohol can cause injuries/accidents (2x the rate of alcohol alone) -Dehydration can be caused by caffeine OR alcohol, because they are diuretics, meaning that they cause the victim to need to empty the bladder much more often and release a lot of important fluid.

Yes, people can build tolerance to caffeine, just like people can build a tolerance to cocaine or other drugs. After continued consumption, the brain desires higher and higher levels of caffeine to bring upon the same symptoms and alertness in the consumer as when the person FIRST drank it.
