Category
A group of people or things having something in common
Legend
A list that identifies patterns, symbols, or colors used in a chart
Vertical Axis Labels
Labels calculated by Excel based on the maximum value in the data and displayed on the vertical axis of a chart
Data Labels
Labels that appear next to data markers in the chart; they can indicate the series name, category name, and/or the value of one or more data points
Chart Title
Optional title or name for a chart
Data Series
Related data points represented by data markers; each data series has a unique color or pattern represented in the chart legend.
Horizontal Axis Label
Some unit of time (days, sessions, weeks, etc)
Category Axis
The area along the bottom of the chart that identifies the categories of data; also referred to as the x-axis.
Plot Area
The area in an Excel chart where the values from the data series are displayed graphically.
Vertical Axis
The axis that runs up and down on the side of the graph
Chart Area
The entire area inside the chart container that holds background as well as plotted data.
Horizontal Axis
The horizontal scale of a chart on which categories are plotted, sometimes called the X axis.
Series Name
The label that identifies the data series
Category Labels
The labels that display along the bottom of a chart to identify the categories of data; Excel uses the row titles as the category names
Value Axis
excel: often contains numerical values that help you interpret the size of chart elements
