TIGER/Line
A file produced by the U.S. Census Bureau that contains (among other things) the line segments that correspond with roads in the United States.
linear interpolation
A method used in geocoding to place an address location among a range of addresses.
locator package
A single file created in ArcGIS that allows for the sharing of Address Locators.
Address Locator
An ArcMap utility that specifies the reference data, geocoding style, and necessary attributes for geocoding.
parsing
Breaking an address into its component parts.
batch geocoding
Matching a group of addresses all at once.
reference data
The base street layer used as a source for geocoding.
address locator style
The format that will be used for geocoding addresses.
geocoding
The process of using the numbers and letters of an address to plot a point at that location.
street centerline
A file containing line segments representing roads.
segment
A single part of a line that corresponds to one portion of a street.
geocoding service
An online utility that allows for geocoding one or more addresses.
