Describe different types of brain tumors/neoplasm, and explain the difference between an encapsulated and an infiltrating brain tumor

Meningiomas: tumors that grow btw the meninges (all = encapsulated tumor) Encapsulated tumors: tumors that grow within their own membrane Benign tumors: tumors that are surgically removable with little risk of further growth in the body Neuromas: tumors that grow on nerves or tracts Infiltrating tumors: grow diffusely through surrounding tissue Malignant tumors: difficult to remove or destroy completely and remaining cancerous tissue continues to grow after surgery Gliomas: brain tumors that develop from glial cells, infiltrating, rapid growth, common Metastatic tumors: grow from infiltrating cells that are carried to brain by bloodstream from other part of body
