ERP/MRP

Enterprise resource planning and manufacturing resource planning are computer systems capable of integrating sales, engineering, and manufacturing data to plan for and procure materials and resources to support production

Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS)

Groups of CNC machine tools that are highly integrated with automated material handling and computerized control systems

NURBS

Non-uniform rational b-splines are a class of curve that allows for complex geometry to be specified through simple control points NURBS are very useful in computer aided design

Computer aided drafting/ computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM)

A class of computer software that has the ability to create electronic representations geometric entities and model machining processes and create NC code based upon the model

Computer aided part programming

A class of computer software that is used to generate NC code.

Rapid prototyping

A group of technologies that can create semi-functional products directly from CAD models without the use of traditional machining, casting or molding. Generally used for mock-ups or to verify designs

Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM)

A group of technologies that use computers to design, automate, control and improve manufacturing operations

STEP models

A neutral CAD model format that allows the easy exchange of product information between engineers and manufactures related to geometry, tolerances, processes, etc.

Computer integrated manufacturing (CIM)

A system of manufacturing that uses computer information systems to plan monitor and control manufacturing processes

Computer aided engineering (CAE)

Computer software that is used to aid in the engineering of complex components and systems. This class of software generally contains a core CAD modeler, components for engineering analysis and CAM

Computer aided drafting

Computer software that is used to model geometric entities and visually represent the geometry

Post processing

The operation in which CAD/CAM machining operations will be converted to machine specific G and M-code
