Body Mass Index (BMI)
calculated by dividing a person's weight in kilograms by the square of his other height in meters (used to determine obesity)
physical activity
exercise + diet = lose fat and preserve lean mass -promotes a healthy distribution of weight -increase HDL -lowers risk for CVD, obesity , and type 2 diabetes, improves circulation
waist-to-hip ratio
fat distribution - waist measure at the smallest point and the hip and the widest point around the buttocks women - pear shaped - lower risk of CVD, HD, obesity men - apple shaped - higher risk of CVD, HD, obesity
diet
nutrient intake, and how much of them (too much fat or protein or sugar) (major factor of type 2 diabetes)

recommendations of how fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy one should intake based on a 2,000 kcal diet (very controversial)
