navigating to sites
A web site's URL tells the browser where to navigate to display a web page. There are two parts to the URL—the protocol and the domain name. The protocol tells the browser which set of rules to use. The most common protocols are HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) and HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol with Secure Sockets Layer). The next part of the URL is the domain name—a description of the site followed by an extension, such as "dot com." To visit a web site, first enter the site's URL (Uniform Resource Locator) in the address bar. This is the address which tells the browser where to find the site. Most browsers assume that you are using the HTTP protocol and automatically add the http:// or https:// portion of the URL. Most browsers will also add in the www. portion of the URL, so you can start typing the address after 'www.'. For example, if you type google.com in the address bar, the browser will fill in the beginning part of the URL and navigate to Google's home page. To use the address bar to navigate to a webpage: 1.Type the URL in the address bar. 2.Press Enter. The Back and Forward buttons appear near the address bar. Back will take you to the previous web page you visited. Forward will take you to the next web page in the sequence of pages that you've visited. Select the check box under Enable to enable the extension for the browser. 3.Click the checkmark again to remove the checkbox and disable the extension for the browser.
