Explain one of the answers the textbook gives to the question, "why should I join a church?"

By joining the church, you can find community, people who share your values and beliefs. Christians who gather together at church encourage each other, worship together, and carry out God's sacraments. Everyone has their own special skills anointed by God, and when we gather in the church, we can bring all our gifts together to complement the workings of the church. Some people are good at evangelizing, preaching, and caring for the kids, and others help manage the media, organize events, and cook the church's meals.

Describe the general message of the biblical prophets in three to five sentences

Each of the prophets describes different circumstances/events, but at the core, they believe that problems can only be solved through repentance. If people do not repent there will be no judgment and there is always hope beyond judgement. Prophets don't always talk about the future but also address current circumstances

What does it mean to say that Jesus has two natures?

He is divine in nature, both fully human and fully man. Not one side is more prominent than the other. He was originally "the word" (Genesis). He exists in both the spiritual (heaven) and the physical (earth) worlds.

Give two examples of Jesus' authority in the gospels

In the gospels Jesus performed many miracles. When he fed the five thousand, beginning with only 5 loaves and 2 fish (Mathew 14). Driving demons and different evils out (Luke 11). And healing multitudes of people (Mathew 8).

Define and explain four of the six essential elements of a worldview

Purpose is the ultimate meaning of the universe: who are we? Why are we here? How are we here? etc. Ethics are the moral understanding of the rules of what we should and shouldn't do as human beginnings. Human nature is what separates us as humans from the rest of the universe. Ultimate reality the absolute, supreme, final, person, power or substance underlying the universe. Together the 6 essential elements of worldview form our understanding of the worldview.

Explain what the acronym SCAN stands fo

SCAN stands for: sufficient, clarity, authority, and necessity. The Bible is sufficient as it gives answers for all that needs to be answered and reveals all that needs to be revealed. Clarity is in reference to the overall completeness of Jesus substituting Himself and dying on the cross for our sins. Authority refers to the Bible's place on having "the final word" on all matters. Necessity refers to how the acceptance of Jesus Christ is necessary to our salvation. Special revelation is required to reach such and understanding.

Explain the coherence test for worldviews. Give an example of how two worldview beliefs could be incoherent.

The coherence test is a worldview test that aims at analyzing and examining the incoherence or coherence of a worldview. If incoherent, such a worldview cannot be considered true, if coherent, the worldview can be considered possibly true. Suppose a person believes 'all lives matter' and any prejudice towards a person that condones violence or murder on the basis of inequality is wrong. Suppose the same person believes in pro-choice (abortion). This would be an incoherent worldview

Describe the differences between old earth creationism, young earth creationism, and evolutionary creationism

Young Earth creationism is built on the belief that the World is only several thousands years old and that before the fall, there was neither sin nor death. Old Earth creationists believe that the Earth is thousands/millions/billions of years old and that whilst it follows the evolutionary pattern, God is the orchestrator behind this process. Evolutionary creationism solely relies on science and believes that God had no hand in creating the Universe and that He is, in fact, non-existent.
