Prevention

Using common sense is the best way to protect against and prevent Cyber Crime. Do not respond to email messages that contain misspellings, poor grammar, odd phrases, or web sites with strange extensions. When in doubt about responding to an email, consider a telephone call to the organization to verify authenticity.

Problem statement

Why is cybercrime a problem today? Cyber crime is a problem today because technology is advancing everyday, however security measures to protect this technology and the users of the technology is not advancing as quickly. This allows for cyber crime to occur more often.

Types of cyber crime

Crimes Against People These crimes include cyber harassment and stalking, distribution of child pornography, credit card fraud, human trafficking, spoofing, identity theft, and online libel or slander. Crimes Against Property Some online crimes occur against property, such as a computer or server. These crimes include DDOS attacks, hacking, virus transmission, cyber and typo squatting, computer vandalism, copyright infringement, and IPR violations. Crimes Against Government When a cybercrime is committed against the government, it is considered an attack on that nation's sovereignty. Cybercrimes against the government include hacking, accessing confidential information, cyber warfare, cyber terrorism, and pirated software.

Introduction

Cybercrime falls into two major areas. The first comes in the form of attacks against computer hardware and software from threats such as viruses, malware, botnets, and network intrusion. The second is financial, and can include fraud, theft of financial information, and phishing.

Phishing

Phishing is a cyber attack that uses disguised email as a weapon. The goal is to trick the email recipient into believing that the message is something they want or need — a request from their bank, for instance, or a note from someone in their company — and to click a link or download an attachment.

Secure browser extensions

Privacy Badger learns from your browsing to block tracking scripts. HTTPS Everywhere: It automatically switches thousands of sites from insecure "http" to secure "https". It will protect you against many forms of surveillance and account hijacking, and some forms of censorship. Adblock Plus: block annoying ads, disables tracking ScriptSafe protects your web privacy
