Chondrocytes

Cartilage cells; occupy small chambers: lacunae; enclosed in a covering of connective tissue: perichondrium; contain blood vessels that provide cartilage cells with nutrients through diffusion

Dense regular Connective Tissue

Collagen fibers arranged in parallel bundles; very strong in the direction of parallels; found in tendons and ligaments

Fibrocartilage

Contains many large collagenous fibers, provided flexible framework, strong; Location: between bony parts of the spinal column

Elastic Cartilage

Large amount of elastic fibers, support, flexible, protect; Location: framework of external ear and parts of larynx

Cartilage

Rigid Connective tissue; protects underlying tissue; matrix is abundant and is composed of collagenous fibers

Dense irregular Connective Tissue

Tons of fibers, but they run in all directions; found in dermis

Hyaline

Weakest type; used for shock absorption and support; white and shiny, most abundant; Location: Nose
