What was life like in the camps?

-A displaced persons camp or DP camp is a temporary facility for displaced persons. -Primarily for refugees from Eastern Europe and for the former inmates of the Nazi German concentration camps. -After the Holocaust, tens of thousands of Jews moved westward to other European territories, which were liberated (displaced persons camps located here). -They were scared to go back to their homes -A lot of children were separated from their parents and went to America. -With the creation of Israel, many Jews started to go there. -170, 000 Jews immigrated to Israel by 1953 -Jews who went to the Palestine right after the war went alone, but those who came later were usually remarried. -Other Jews go to the countries of the Allied nations -Many Jews battled with private and personal memories of the Holocaust -Conditions in camps were varied and sometimes harsh. -Rations were restricted -Curfews were frequently imposed. -Camps were shut down as refugees found new homes and there was continuous consolidation of remaining refugees into fewer camps.

How did they go about finding their families?

-People hung lists of their family members, trying to search them out. -Others tried to contact Red Cross for help -Finding their families took years -A lot of peoples families had died and they never found them.

-The camps were established after World War II in Germany, Austria, and Italy. There were also camps in the countries of the Allies and in the Palestine.
