What is the difference between a solid model and a surface model?
A solid model is considered to be defined from the actual material making up the object. Solid models are used in mechanical drafting applications because they can be analyzed for properties such as mass and volume. Models created in surface modeling are similar to solid models, but the objects are not defined as solid. Surface models have an outer "skin" to represent exterior surfaces.

Explain the difference between bottom-up modeling and top-down modeling.
In bottom-up modeling, which is the first approach, each part is created individually, and then, the parts are combined by inserting them into an assembly. In top-down modeling, which is the second approach, the assembly file is created first and each part is modeled within the assembly file until the assembly is complete. Each part is still saved as a separate file.

Explain a typical protocol for file saving and storage established by a CAD firm.
This protocol usually requires that employees save and back up their work at regular intervals. Generally, these strategies are very in-depth routines. A good file storage protocol is designed so that everything possible is done to guarantee that valuable work and hours are not lost. 1) Save your work every 15 minutes. 2) Save files to a network server rather than a local hard drive. 3) If possible, save to a network server with automatic file backup capability to ensure file security. 4) Back up work weekly to another location separate from the network server, such as one or more portable media devices. Work can be saved to CDs, DVDs, or flash drives.

Briefly discuss how to attach a drawing sheet to a board using drafting tape and a T-square.
To properly put a piece of paper on your drafting board, first think of where you want your paper to be in the end. Place it in the rough area. Next, align your T-Square with the edge of your drafting board. Now align the paper to lay flat on the T-Square. Gently but firmly hold the corners of your paper to the board, making sure to keep the bottom of your paper flat on the T-square, and then apply drafters tape or drafters tape dots onto your paper. Repeat with the other 3 corners.
