Three Point Turnabout

Hand over Hand/ Push Pull Steering

1. Begin turn from balanced and position 2. Pull down to left with left hand. Right hand pushes wheel toward left about a quarter turn. 3. Release left hand from wheel and cross over right hand to grasp wheel near top. Continue pulling down.

Backing Left and Right

1. Check for traffic. Turn head toward direction your backing. 2. Keep both hands on wheel, ready for hand over hand steering. Pull wheel to left to back left. Pull wheel to right to back rigt. Back vehicle in direction you turn. Look back toward direction you want vehicle to go. 3. Back slowly as you enter turn. Make quick glances to front and side. Begin to undwind steering wheel to finish turn in straight position. When backing left, allow wide space on right. Front wheels move far to right of rear wheels. Front of vehicle will swing wide to right. When backing right, allow wide space on left.

Midblock U Turn

1. Check traffic ahead, to rear, then signal right. Pull to far right and stop at location one. 2. Signal left and move toward location two. 3. Check front and left rear zones. Check left blind spot. Turn sharply left while moving slowly toward location three. Do not stop if you have enough space to complete a turn. 4. Move slowly toward location four. Check all zones. Straighten wheels while you accelerate gently into proper lane.

Lane Change to Left

1. Check traffic in front and left front zoes. Check rear zones through rearview mirrors. 2. SIgnal and make blind spot check over left shoulder to see if vehicle is about to pass you. 3. Increase speed slightly as you steer smoothly into next lane if it is clear. 4. Cancel signal and adjust speed.

Pull driveway on left side

1. Check traffic in front and rear zones. Signal left turn and use left turn procedure to move to location two. Stay as close to right side as possible. Stop with wheels straight when vehicle is completely off street. 2. Check traffic again. Back slowly to right to location tree. Look to right rear side while backing. Stop with wheels straight. 3.Accelerate gently, scanning all zones, drive forward toward location four.

Pull into Driveway on Right side

1. Check traffic in front and rear zones. Signal right turn and use right turn procedure to move to location two. Stop when vehicle is off street. 2. Check traffic from both directions. Back slowly across street, turning left toward location tree. Look to left, rear, and side wen backing. Glance to front, then continue looking back while stopping with wheels straight in location three. 4. Accelerate gently, and drive forward to location four.

Back into Driveway on Right side

1. Check traffic to rear. Begin to slow as you proceed beyond driveway. 2. Stop three feet from curb and wit rear bumper just beyond driveway. Check traffic and back slowly to right to location three. Use hand over hand steering. Stop when vehicle is completely off street. 3. Signal left turn. Check traffic. 4. When path is clear, drive forward to location four.

Steering Straight Backward

1. Hold brake pedal down, shift to reverse 2. Turn body right, put right arm over back of passenger seat. Look back through rear window. 3. Put left hand at top of steering wheel at 12 o clock position. 4. Release pressure on brake to allow vehicle to creep backward slowly. 5. Keep foot over brake pedal while vehicle is moving backward. Glance quickly to front and side to check traffic. Continue to look through rear window as you break to stop.

Procedure for Turning

1. Position vehicle in correct lane for turn. If right turn be in lane position three. If left turn be lane nearest center line in lane position two. Signal half a block before turn. 2. Brake early to reduce speed. 3. Use visual search pattern. 4. Slow to 10 mph just before crosswalk. 5. For right turning check to left before turning, then look in direction of turn. 6. For left turn check traffic to left, ten right, then left. Turn steering wheel before front of vehicle reaces center of intersection. Continue looking left into lane you enter. 7. As you begin turn, make blind spot check through right side of window. Check front and rear zones. If intersection is clear, turn into nearest lane of traffic going in direction. Accelerate halfay through turn as you return wheel to straight position.

Turnabout

Be sure local laws permit it. Select site 500 feet of visilbity in each direction. Do not make turnabout near ills or curves or within 200 feet of intersection. Never attempt a turnabout in heavy or high speed traffic. Check continually in all zones for traffic and pedestrians.
