Echoes, Reverberation And Displaying Sound
Echo
An echo is produced when a sound travels a long distance and reflects on a large, hard surface. It then return to the listener after 0.1 sec after the original sound has dissipated.
Signal spectrum
Displays the average amplitude per frequency. It does not show how amplitude changes over time.
Waveform display
Displays the change in total amplitude over time. Does not show how the amplitude changes for each frequency
What factors would lead to a high reverberation time?
High reverberation time (time taken for sound level to go below 60db of the initial sound) would be achieved in a room that is large and has a small absorbing area.
What is noise?
Noise refers to alterations in a sound. This includes a changing mixture of frequencies over time, changing amplitude of these frequencies over time and the duration of the frequencies over time.
Pink noise
Pink noise contains lower frequencies in greater amplitude than higher frequencies
Reverberation
Reverberation occurs when sound is reflected and returned back to the speaker in less than 0.1sec.
Reverberation time define
Reverberation time refers to the time taken for sound level to fall below 60db
What is white noise made up of?
White noise contains all frequencies at equal amplitudes
