what is a wave?

A disturbance that transfers energy progressively from point to point through a medium.

what is mechanical energy

A form of energy directly related to motion. The mechanical energy of a system or object is the sum of its kinetic energy plus potential energy.

what is light?

A form of energy that travels in a straight line and can be reflected, refracted or absorbed. It makes things visible.

What are 3 properties of sound?

All sounds are made by vibrations. All sounds have a frequency. Sound travels in waves.

what is an example of mechanical energy?

Anything that moves like a bicycle or car has mechanical energy.

what is sound?

Energy in the form of vibrations passing through matter.

what is energy?

Energy is the ability to do work. It has the power to change things. Energy makes thing move, run, or happen.

How does light move through different materials?

Light can hit an object like a window and travel right through it. The light waves can also bend through an object like glass, this is called refraction.

what materials can light NOT travel through?

Opaque materials like bricks or cardboard.

what is potential energy?

Stored energy. Example: A roller coaster at the top of a hill.

what is a vibration?

The back and forth motion of an object.

what is refraction?

The bending of light waves as they move from one material to another.

what is kinetic energy?

The energy of motion. Example: A roller coaster going down a hill.

what does absorb mean?

To take in. Sound and light waves can be taken in to a material. The materials absorb sound and light.

How does light reflect from different materials?

When light hits something and bounces off it causes a reflection like a mirror.

what is reflection?

When waves bounce off an object or a surface.

give 3 examples of kinetic energy.

a ball being dropped. an apple falling from a tree. a roller coaster traveling down the hill.

give 3 examples of potential energy.

a ball being held in the air. an apple hanging on a tree a roller coaster at the top of a hill.

what are 3 properties of light?

light travels in waves. light can bend, bounce or travel in a straight line. nothing is faster than the speed of light.
