Evelyn Glennie had a hearing loss and was discouraged by most of the teachers but she did not give up. Percussionist Ron Forbes helped her and encouraged her not to listen to the music through her ears but to sense the music through her body. Evelyn, with the encouragement, learnt to open up her body and mind to sense the sound and vibrations of music. At the age of 6, Bismillah moved to Benares. There under the guidance and training of his maternal uncle, Ali Bux, he started picking up the finer nuances of Shehnai. He used to spend most of his time practising on the banks of River Ganges. Bismillah was so much fascinated watching his uncle practising the Shehnai that he used to accompany him daily to the Vishnu Temple.
