Human Person

- Someone with an exact origin of his/her classification. Biblically, we came from Adam and Eve. Scientifically, from apes (Mammalia). - A tangible body with 3 components: SOUL, MIND, and SPIRIT. - entitled rights and privileges

Externality

- ability to reach out and interact with others - man is a social being; never exists in isolation

Transcendence

- ability to surpass limits - being in control and overcoming oneself - acknowledge limitations and develop - opening yourself to new ideas and experiences - above and beyond the normal or physical level within ourselves

Embodied Spirit

- animating core living within each of us - driving force behind what we do, think, or say

'It is through our limitations that possibilities become real."

- by recognizing and working within our limitations and constraints, we create opportunities and achieve our goals - encourages individuals to focus on what they CAN do and not on what they CAN'T - limitations can be a driving force for innovation and progress

Self-Determination

- capability to make choices and decisions

Self-Awareness

- clear perception of oneself - ability of one's consciousness to look inward - driven by rationality or human thought - self - one is actively aware that he is experiencing and perceiving reality

Physical Self

- essential features of the way of human life - WHO of a person - physical appearance

Spirit

- intangible, INTERIORITY

Cognitive Self

- something within and cannot be physically seen - THE WHAT OF A PERSON - human persons' belief, desire, dreams, and intentions

Dignity

- the inherent or innate right of being worthy of esteem or respect - not defined by intelligence, beauty, or skills - A person retains their dignity in spite of actions and behaviors

Natural Law

- the rule of conduct for human beings that God gives - it is based on our nature as rational beings (able to think and reason out) - moral law for how human beings should behave

Law of Nature

- the study of science that helps us understand these interrelated laws in Math, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics - we are able to realize and marvel at the power of God who made and continues to sustain the earth

A Filipino quotation that literally means it is easy to live physically as a human, but difficult to be human morally. Because we have our own moral conscience to make decisions, we are responsible for whatever path we choose to take. However, often times we choose to do wrong. It is all about having a good attitude and character, and because of the fact that we are all human, we make mistakes and don't always do what is right all the time, making it extremely challenging.

EMBODIED SPIRIT/EMBODIMENT OF A SPIRT

According to St. Thomas Aquinas, the human body is dwelled by the soul, making an inseparable union between them until death. In addition, the human person is the point of convergence between the material and spiritual entities.
