eye parts and functions
Iris
Controls size of pupil according to amount of light and gives eyes their colour.
Vitrious humor
Fills up eye behind lens with it's jelly like tissue that helps maintain the shape of the eye.
Lens
Helps to focus an image on the retina
Pupil
Hole in iris that allows light to pass through
Sclerotic layer
Tough white outer layer that protects the eye and helps maintain its shape.
Choroid layer
a black layer lining behind the retina . It prevents light from reflecting all around the eye and nourishes it with blood and oxygen.
Conjuctiva
a clear thin layer covering the front of the eye. An infection of the eye called conjunctivitis can occur here.
Retina
a layer containing light-sensitive cells where image is produced and changed into nerve signals
Yellow spot (fovea)
a section of the retina directly behind the pupil that contains a large number of the colour-sensitive cells.
optic nerve
carries nerve signals to brain
Cilliary mucles
change the shape of the lens to bring images into focus.
Suspensory ligaments
holds the lens in place.
Cornea
thin clear layer at surface of eye that Helps to focus light on the retina
Aqueous humor
watery liquid that fills the space between the cornea and the lens. Helps maintain the shape of the eye.
Blind spot
where blood vessels and optic nerve join the eyeball. There are no light-sensitive cells to detect image information.
