Emphasis- use to draw attention to your best feature, Harmony- must have something in common such as style, shape, color or size, Rhythm-repeating color or shape in accessories or design features, Balance-feeling of equal weight, and Scale-refers to the overall size of a design detail or its size compared to other details.

Re-stitch by machine or hand and use double stiching in areas of stress.

Specific hand sewing techniques
Basting stitch (or tacking) - for reinforcement, blanket stitch, blind stitch (or hemstitch) - a type of slip stitch used for inconspicuous hems, chain stitch - hand or machine stitch for seams or decoration, cross-stitch - usually used for decoration, but may also be used for seams catch stitch (also 'flat' & 'blind' -catch stitch) gathering, slip stitch - a hand stitch for fastening two pieces of fabric together from the right side without the thread showing, whipstitch - for protecting edges
Basic parts of a sewing machine and functions
Bobbin-small spool that holds the lower thread, Feed dog-grips fabric and moves it toward the back of the machine during stitching, Hand wheel- turns by hand to control movement of the needle and the thread take up lever, Needle-carries tope thread through fabric to connect with bobbin thread to make a stitch, and presser foot-holds fabric in place for sewing. (other parts-remember the sewing maching labeling test, that you had to pass before sewing)

Correct stitch length is used, stress areas are reinforced, buttonholes are well-made, fasteners should be applied to a least three layers to keep them from pulling out, seams should be smooth and flat, garment should be free of imperfections, and hem is straight and even.
