At non-towered airports, when must you monitor CTAF and perform self announce procedures? (GOM 5.12)
10 minutes prior to arrival CTAF must be monitored and no less than 10 miles from the destination standard position and intentions will be broadcast.
Assume a re-route by ATC will delay your flight. How long can the delay be before the Captain must take action? Explain what this action will be.
15 minutes, PIC must ensure there is adequate fuel available to meet the FAR requirements and complete the flight safely. Systems Operation Control (SOC) must be notified and informed of any changes.
Describe the conditions that must exist in order to accept a visual approach? (GOM 5.5)
Airport in sight and the aircraft is in a position that allows a descent to be made with normal maneuvers and safe obstacle clearance.
Explain what must be reported by AWOS before it can be used for an approach? (GOM 5.6)
An instrument approach may not be continued beyond the FAF or final approach segment if no FAF is stated, if the visibility is below minimums prescribed for that approach.
Explain the Sterile Cockpit rule? (GOP 3.11)
Flight crew members will not engage in any activities not essential to safe operation during the critical phases of flight. Critical phases of flight include, all ground operations involving taxi, takeoff and landing, or anytime below 10,000' except cruise flight. The sterile cockpit usually ends when climbing through 10,000' on departure or descending through 10,000' on arrival.
What should you do if weather falls below minimums before you reach the final approach fix? What if you are inside the FAF? (GOM 5.6)
If the weather falls below that required for the approach, a missed approach must be performed. The approach may continue if inside the FAF.
What do you need for a takeoff with less than 1600 RVR -1200 TDZ RVR/1000 rollout RVR?
Minimum of 2 RVR reporting systems HIRL, Operative Centerline Lights , Runway Centerline Marking
Describe when you are required to obtain the most current weather when commencing an instrument approach?
Prior to beginning the approach
You were released without an alternate airport requirement. Whole enroute your destination weather drops below 2000 and 3. Can you continue? What must be done? (GOM 7.35)
The PIC and dispatcher will consider the level and rate of deterioration and select an alternate to which the flight may proceed considering available fuel and reserve requirements.
What is the required to descend below DA or MDA? (GOM 5.6)
The aircraft is in a position from which a landing can be made at a normal rate of descent using normal maneuvers and where descent rate will allow the aircraft touchdown to occur in the touchdown zone. At the DH/MDA visibility is at least the visibility prescribed One of the following visual references are visible, threshold, threshold markings, threshold lights, REIL, VASI, runway or runway markings, runway lights, or approach light system (descent 100' above touchdown zone elevation unless red terminating bars are visible)
What should be done n the event of an engine failure enroute?
The aircraft must be land at the nearest suitable airport in a point of time at which a safe landing can be assured.
What is required to proceed beyond the FAF?
The latest weather report must indicate visibility is greater than that required for the approach.
What do you need for a takeoff with less than 1 mile visibility down to 1/4 mile or 1600 RVR? (GOM 3.9/3.10)
Touchdown zone RVR if available is controlling, a mid RVR can be substituted for an unavailable TDZ RVR. One of the following must be available: HIRL, CL, or serviceable centerline markings
You were released for a flight with an alternate airport listed. While enroute the alternate airport weather drops below the derived alternate minimums, can you proceed? What must be done?
Yes as long as the weather stays at or above the lowest approach minimums for a selected approach.
