Oligarchy
"Rule by a few" form of government
Theocracy
A government in which the society is ruled by religious leaders.
representative democracy
A government where citizens rule through elected representatives.
Representative Democracy
A system of government in which citizens elect representatives, or leaders, to make decisions about the laws for all the people.
Socialism
Economic and political system in which society as a whole, rather than private individuals, own all property and operate all businesses.
Direct Democracy
Government in which citizens vote on laws and select officials directly
anarchy
Nobody is in control OR everybody is in control
Dictatorship
One person holds all power (dictator). Usually this person is backed by the military.
Constitutional Monarchy
Power of the Monarch is limited by a constitution Example: Canada
Theocracy

Anarchy
The absence of any governmental authority leading to disorder or confusion
Monarchy

The power is held by a small group of people; Usually this is an elite group.
communism
The system of government in which the government plans and controls the economy and a single party holds the power. Strives to make everyone equal.
Dictatorship
Total government control - the leader has complete control and harsh punishments can be issued; has total control over the media (no free speech)
Autocracy
Type of government run/controlled by a single person. Examples: monarchy, dictatorship

everyone gets a vote on every major decision
