Non-killing owl

A SSS ranked ghoul who was impersonating the One-eyed Owl, but did not kill investigators who attacked him. Identity: Kuzen Yoshimura. Deceased.

Eyepatch

A captain of the Aogiri Tree organization, characterized by his snow white hair and a mask that includes an eyepatch running over his left eye, hence the name. SS ranked Rinkaku ghoul. accomplice in the murder of First Class Investigator Kureo Mado and killer of Senior investigator Koutarou Amon. Deceased. Killed by Kishou Arima.

Ghoul

A carnivorous and/ or cannibalistic species similar to humans. Ghouls have an RC level of 1000-8000, can produce a kagune(or kakuja), kakugan, and have a kakuhou. Ghouls can only consume water, coffee, humans, and other ghouls due to a special enzyme produced in their bodies. Eating other food causes serious nausea, and tastes awful due to their tongues having a different structure. Digestion of human foods can harm a ghouls body and can actually cause their physical state to deteriorate. They also can't starve themselves, because their body is designed to step in and take over in a situation where they are going to die. Ghouls can live for months off of one feeding. In addition, ghouls have remarkable regenerative abilities and tougher bodies that are impervious to normal weapons(with the exceptions of soft body parts such as the ears, nose, lips, etc.) However, with the use of quinque steel, they can be injured and even killed.

Kagune

A ghouls predatory organ used as a weapon, armor, or claws. It is made up of RC cells and can be hardened or softened at will. Kagunes are split up into four types based on RC levels and location. These types are Ukaku, koukaku, rinkaku, and bikaku.

Koukaku

A kagune released from below the shoulder blades. It most commonly is used as a shell or shield but can be in the form of a blade. This kagune has the highest density of RC cells, which makes for great defense. However, it is the most heavy of the kagunes, and therefor ghouls with them have inferior speed. Koukaku ghouls can fend off ukaku ghouls easily but are weak against a rinkaku ghouls severe blows.

Rinkaku

A kagune released from the waist that appears as scaled tentacles. It has a superior power to strike, and it's brute strength is unlike any other kagune. A rinkaku ghoul's RC cells bind easily but are more similar to liquids, making them more brittle. They can easily surpass a koukaku ghoul's defenses but a bikaku ghoul has enough power to possibly even cut their kagune off.

Kakugan

A kakugan is part of a ghoul's eye(eyes). When a ghoul becomes excited or uses one of its powers the pupil becomes red and the sclera turns black. Usually, a ghoul has one for each eye- with some exceptions (see One Eyed Ghoul).

Kakuja

A mutated form of a kagune due to repeated cannibalism that increases uptake of RC cells. A kakuja can cling to a ghouls body like armor, but using it for offense almost always causes insanity, so it is almost impossible to use in that manner.

One-Eyed Ghoul

A one-eyed ghoul is a human/ghoul hybrid that are greatly superior to full blood ghouls. They are extremely rare, and in most cases are created artificially by organ transplanting or raising of RC cell levels. Naturally born ghouls are considered urban legends. This is because pregnancy is rare, and a child being born is nearly impossible. If the mother is a human, the baby will die from lack of nutrients, and if the mother is a ghoul, her body will mistake the fetus for food and absorb it. Even so, it has not been disproved that a naturally born one-eyed ghoul can never be born.

Gourmet

A troublesome ghoul of the 20th ward with a well-known reputation: ghouls wouldn't even get involved with him. He is known as the "Gourmet" by investigators and is one of the most difficult ghouls to capture. He is a very powerful, cunning, smug, and fashionable ghoul.

Ukaku

A type of kagune located between the shoulder blades. This type spreads out like feathers. It is lightweight and is able to deliver high speed, long range, and short range attacks. However, they lack stamina and endurance. Ukaku ghouls often can defeat bikaku ghouls with their superior mobility, but are susceptible to koukaku ghouls that can quickly wear them out.

Kakuhou

An organ specific to ghouls. The job of a kakuhou is to harden RC cells in order for them to break through skin and produce a kagune.

Ward 24

An underground labyrinth dug by the ghouls of Tokyo a long time ago to hide from humans. possibly the most violent ward. uses kagune walls. used by ghouls on the run as a hideout.

Owl 27

Expirimental half-ghoul created by Aogiri Tree, inherited the Owl's kagune and a kakugan in his right eye. betrayed Aogiri Tree, killed Tatara, and joined Haise Sasaki's Quinx squad. Identity: Seidou Takizawa.

Centipede

Eyepatch lost control and developed a Half-Kakuja due to repetitive cannibalism and the continuous consumtion of other ghouls, gaining the alias Centipede, a formidably fast opponent. Defeated Yukinori Shinohara, but luckily was defeated by Senior Investigator Amon, but was rescued by the One-eyed Owl.

Raven

He is known to CCG as Raven due to his mask resembling the bird as well as his kagune's pitch black color. His kagune are two massive pitch black wings with a typical Ukaku function in firing projectiles. However, he has an extra special ability to fire lightning-like bolts and also conduct electricity.

Ward 20

Possibly the most peaceful and quiet Ward. The ward Anteiku is located in.

Rabbit

Rank SS Ukaku ghoul. Killed Kureo Mado.

Orochi

S ranked Bikaku ghoul. shows hostility towards the CCG, but shows no sign of siding with Aogiri Tree, even making a comment about how "...Those Dove folks do some pretty sickening stuff. They're no better than Aogiri, are they?"

One-eyed Owl

SSS ranked ghoul. A Kakuja. Characterized by a single red eye in the center of it's mask. Murderer of Yukinori Shinohara.

One-eyed king

The One-Eyed King is a mysterious figure, often associated with revolutionary ideology. Rumored to be the leader of the ghoul organization, Aogiri Tree, the King's identity is the subject of much speculation and a primary target of V.

Bikaku

The kagune of a bikaku ghoul is released from the tailbone, and does indeed have the appearance of a tail. A bikaku has no obvious strengths or weaknesses, so a ghoul with one is quite difficult to defeat. More often then not a bikaku can defeat a rinkaku ghoul and it's brittle kagune but an ukaku is faster, and is able to defeat a bikaku ghoul with long range attacks.

RC Cells

These cells are contained in both humans and ghouls and resemble curled up fetuses. They are often referred to as liquid muscles, as they can flow like blood or become as hard as rock. An RC level is the amount of the cells in a body. Humans have an RC level of 200-500. Ghouls have about 10x the RC level, ranging from 1000 all the way up to 8000.

S

a high level ghoul rank. Chances are, if you run into a really powerful ghoul, it's S ranked.

Clowns

a mysterious group responsible for the accident that led to Kaneki receiving Rize's organs. They later appear in the sequel as the proprietors of an auction for wealthy Ghouls to buy humans which is later broken up by the CCG. After Furuta kills his father, their members start attacks around Tokyo to put the CCG in state of alert, in a plot to have the organization fall into Furuta's hands.

SS

a powerful classification of ghouls that is rare to run across, but not as rare as running into a SSS ghoul

sekigan

a type of ghoul characterized by only having one kakugan. often more powerful than a full blooded ghoul. a hybrid of ghouls and humans. rarely ever born, but are able to be surgically created. chances are, if a human and ghoul try to have kids, they won't have a healthy child because humans and ghouls just don't mix, so it's extremely rare for a sekigan to happen naturally. rumored among ghouls to have special powers.

Quinxes

special forces CCG squad of half-ghouls led by Associate First Class Investigator Haise Sasaki

Ward 11

the home ward of Aogiri Tree. CCG cannot keep it under control and mostly ghouls inhabit it.

SSS

the most powerful classification of ghouls. only a handful of ghouls out of hundreds, maybe thousands, could be put under this classification, so running into one is extremely rare

C

the weakest classification a ghoul can fall under
