scientific notation

rational number whose square root is a whole number

base

the base is used as a factor as how many times as given by the exponent

exponent

the exponent tells how many times the base number is used as a factor

real numbers

the set of rational numbers together with the set of irrational numbers

radical sign

the symbol √ used to indicate a nonnegative square root
