Bar Graph

Bar graphs are used to compare things between different groups or to track changes over time. Bar graphs are used when your data is in categories. (Categories=Words on X axis)

How to title a science line and bar graph?

Dependent vs. Independent including units (Use the labels from the x and y axis and put them in the right order.

Line Graph

Line graphs are used to track changes over periods of time. All data points are connected. (amount or number on x-axis)

Pie Graph

Pie charts are best to use when you are trying to compare parts of a whole. (Percentages and Fractions)

Mr. X is an independent guy

means that the X axis is for the independent variable

X to the Left

means the x axis goes from left to right horizontal

Y to the Sky

means the y axis goes up and down vertical

Independent Variable

the variable or thing that the scientist changes, the "if I..." part of the experiment

Dependent Variable

the variable or thing that the scientist measures/observes, the "then this will happen" part of the experiment

General Rules

1. Every graph should have a title. The dependent variable should be lifted first, the independent variable listed second. 2. Each axis (x and y) should be labeled with units. 3. The independent variable always goes on the x-axis and the dependent variable goes on the y-axis. 4. Use the space that you have, do not squish it, do not go over the edges.

SULTAN

Stands for scale, units, labels, title, accuracy, and neatness. This is a good way to check your work when you graph
