Nursing malpractice is also known as professional negligence. This takes place if the nursing care provided to the client falls below the expected standards of care. A nurse may avoid malpractice by developing a caring rapport with the client and communicating about treatment plans and tests. Nursing malpractice may take place even when nurses do not intend to harm clients, but are unable to maintain proper standards of care. Nursing malpractice is an unintentional tort.

Leadership theories: Style Two-Factor Expectancy Transformational

Style theories focus on what leaders do in relational and contextual terms. The two-factor leadership theory refers to using motivator factors to inspire work performance. The two-factor theory of leadership indicates that motivating factors such as promoting job enrichment by creating job satisfaction inspire the work performance of the staff. The expectancy theory of leadership refers to providing specific feedback about positive performance. The transformational theory of leadership refers to a process in which the leader attends to the needs and motives of followers.

The Delphi technique is used to achieve consensus among team members by reconsidering and judging the opinions. The Delphi technique includes the feedback of anonymous people who may not physically convene

The Magnet Recognition Program

The Magnet Recognition Program empowers the nursing team to make changes and be innovative. The Magnet Recognition Program has been established by The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to recognize health care organizations that achieve excellence in nursing practice. The Magnet Recognition Program has clinical promotion systems and research and evidence-based practice programs. The Magnet Recognition Program requires nurses to collect data on specific nursing-sensitive quality indicators or outcomes. The Magnet Recognition Program requires nurses to compare outcomes against a national, state, or regional database to demonstrate quality of care.

Brainstorming

The brainstorming strategy is applied during a decision-making process to generate innovative ideas in spite of having criticism from team members.Brainstorming involves listing all ideas without critique or discussion.

Focus Group

The focus group strategy is used to identify problems or to evaluate the effects of an intervention during a face-to-face discussion but not through writing the ideas.

Nominal Group Technique

The nominal group technique has group members silently provide written input into the decision-making process. Choosing the ideas based on highest ranking is done after discussing the merits of the ideas. This technique allows equal participation among members and minimizes the problem of dominance. In the nominal group technique, participants are asked to not talk to each other as they write down their ideas to solve a predefined problem or issue.

Trait theory

Trait theory says that self-awareness is a useful trait in self-development. This helps in developing assertiveness.

Libel

Written defamation of character is known as libel. The nurse may be charged with libel because he or she makes false entries in the client's medical records.
