In 1928 while studying influenza at the Saint Mary's university in London, he came across a Petri dish (that had been used to grow Staphylococci) that had began growing a mould. He realized that the mould had created a germ free area around it.

Who discovered Penicillin originally?

John Sanderson. John stated that very little grew around it. John Liston then noted these observation and later used it to successfully treated a nurse who had a infected wound. But he never left notes on this and didn't carry on any work in this area.
