Identify the stage of the cell cycle and explain how you determined - Chapter 8
Interphase
G1 + S + G2 = The phase of the cell cycle where synthesis of new DNA and organelles takes place
Interphase - Explain how you determine
G1 + S + G2 = stages that make-up 90% of the cells life A stage of mitosis in which the cell duplicates DNA. Ex: An analogy of interphase would be like the time before a movie starts a lot happens that we don't know about.
Interphase
G1 + S + G2 = the stage of the cell cycle the takes place before cell division occurs; during the stage, the cell grows, copies its DNA, and prepare to divide
Anaphase
The third phase of Meiosis where homologus pairs seperate and move to opposite poles
Prophase
shortening and tight coiling of DNA into rod shaped chromosomes that can be seen with a light microscope
Prophase - explain how you determine
A stage of mitosis in which the cell gets ready to divide. Ex: An analogy of Prophase would be When a football game starts and the teams separate and huddle and then play. Mitosis begins. Chromosomes become visible and the membrane around the nucleus dissolves.
Anaphase
A stage of mitosis in which the cell stars to divide. Ex: An analogy of anaphase would be when the kids break the toy and they both get half of the toy.
Prophase
Chromosomes become more coiled and can be viewed under a light microscope. •Each duplicated chromosome is seen as a pair of sister chromatids joined by the duplicated but unseparated centromere. •The nucleolus disappears during prophase. •In the cytoplasm, the mitotic spindle, consisting of microtubules and other proteins, forms between the two pairs of centrioles as they migrate to opposite poles of the cell. •The nuclear envelope disappears at the end of prophase. This signals the beginning of the substage called prometaphase.
Anaphase
Each pair of chromosomes separates, and the two halves move to opposite ends of the cell.
Metaphase
The phase of mitosis where chromosomes line up on the mitotic plate/along the equator of the cell. A stage of mitosis in which everything gets organized and is about to divide. Ex: An analogy of Metaphase would be like two kids fighting for the same toy they pull in opposite directions just like the cells do.
Metaphase - Explain how you determine
The phase of mitosis where the chromosomes line up at the equator of the spindle.
Telophase and cytokinesis - explain how you determined
process in which the parent cell becomes divided into two daughter cells, each with their own reorganized nucleus
Anaphase
sister chromatids separate to opposite sides of the cell.
Anaphase - explain how you determine
where each centromere divides and the two strands of chromosomes split, separate, and move to opposite ends of cell
