What is Corner Bead for drywall?

What is drywall corner bead? Drywall corner bead is an angled piece of trim installed along the length of outside wall corners, where two drywall boards meet. Corner bead is nailed in and then coated with spackle and then painted.

What are the layers behind drywall?

Behind drywall there's a layer of insulation that's fitted between wall studs/framing. The insulation behind drywall is usually fiberglass batts insulation, spray foam insulation, or cellulose and blown-in insulation.

Crown Molding

Decorative molding used at the top of cabinets, at ceiling corners, and under a roof overhang.

Gypsum Board

Due to its inherent fire resistance, gypsum board, commonly known as drywall is the premier building material for wall, ceiling, and partition systems in residential, institutional, and commercial structures. The standard size gypsum boards are 4-ft wide and 8,10,12, or 14ft long.

Fire Wall (Party Wall)

A firewall is a fire-resistant barrier used to prevent the spread of fire. Firewalls are built between or through buildings, structures, or electrical substation transformers, or within an aircraft or vehicle. *Common in most Philly row homes and other row homes and condos.

Plaster Wall

A more durable finish than drywall, plaster goes on top of a layer of lath. Lath is thin strips of wood that run horizontally along wall framing, ceiling joists.

7 Types of Crown Molding

1) Plaster. 2) Solid Wood. 3) MDF. 4) Polyurethane. 5) PVC. 6) Flex. 7) Polystyrene.

Marble Wall

Common in bathrooms, showers, etc.

Stacked Stone Wall

Common on walls, around fireplaces, etc.

Lath & Plaster

Lath and plaster is a building process used to finish mainly interior dividing walls and ceilings. It consists of narrow strips of wood (laths) which are nailed horizontally across the wall studs or ceiling joists and then coated in plaster.

Metal Lath (Wire Lath)

Metal lath, a mesh formed by expanding a perforated metal sheet, is made in a variety of forms (diamond-mesh, flat-ribbed, and wire lath). Used for both interior and exterior projects if you require an easily cut material that can conform to curved surfaces. Can be used as a plaster base and reinforcement on almost all types of walls and ceilings, and over wood or steel framing. The large number of openings provide for a better stucco bonding.

Plywood

Plywood generally comes in 4x8 sheets (just like drywall). 5x5 sheets of Plywood are also common. Structural plywood is commonly used as beams, subfloors, shipping crates, roof bracing, or wall bracing. Exterior plywood, as it sounds, it used for outdoor structures. Exterior plywood is made to be water resistant and tough against environmental elements.

Drywall

The most common material used to cover ceilings and walls. Sheets of drywall are 4 feet wide and 8 feet long. (32sq feet) 4x12 sheets of drywall is another option if you have tall or long walls. *The most common sheet of drywall is 4x8 with 1/2-in thickness. Thickness can be 1/2-in, 1/4-in, 3/8-in, and 5/8-in.
