main deck

warsaw convention

a 1999 protocol that limits the liability of air carriers to SDR 17 per kilogram. There is no limit for death or bodily injury
roller deck
a deck designed to carry cargo and equipped with rollers and bearing that allow the cargo to be moved in any direction without much friction
lower deck
a deck designed to carry cargo and luggage, located underneath the main deck of an aircraft
onboard courier (OBC)
a passenger on a regularly scheduled flight who relidishes his or her baggage allocation to allow cargo in its place
international air transport association (IATA)
a trade association comprising almost 230 airlines representing 93 percent of all scheduled air traffic
quick-change aircraft
a type of airplane that can be quickly converted from all- cargo service to all passenger service with the use of palletized seat sections
combi aircraft
a type of airplane that is designed to carry both cargo and passengers at the same time on the main deck
airfreighter
a type of airplanes dedicated to carrying cargo
charter airfreight
a type of cargo that can only be shipped on a charter aircraft because its too heavy, too bulky or its destination is not serviced by a scheduled airfreight service
ACMI lease
a type of leasing contract in which an airplane is leased along with a crew maintenance services and insurance
wet lease
a type of leasing contract in which an airplane is leased along with a crew maintenance services insurance and fuel
damp lease
a type of leasing contract in which an airplane is leased along with maintenance services and insurance but no crew
dry lease
a type of leasing contract in which only an airplane is leased
freight tonne kilometer (FTK)
a unit designed to express cargo volume shipped. It is equal to the number of tones of cargo shipped multiplied by the number of kilometers they were shipped
revenue tonne kilometer (RTK)
a unit designed to express total airline activity. It is equal to the number of tones of cargo, passengers, baggages and mail shipped multiplied by the number of kilometers they were shipped
