Cloud Computing/ Device Cloud

A model for enabling convenient, on demand network access to shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g. networks, servers, storage, applications and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.

Web Services

A software system designed to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network. It has an interface described in a machine-processable format.

Sensor

A special Device that perceives certain characteristics of the real world and transfers them into a digital representation.

Smart Devices

An electronic device that is cordless, mobile, always connected with internet and is capable of voice and video communication, internet browsing, "geo-location" and that can operate to some extant autonomously.

Resource

Computational element that gives access to information about or actuation capabilities on a Physical Entity.

Intelligent Environments

IE are spaces with embedded systems and information and communication technologies creating interactive spaces that bring computation into the physical world.

Internet of things

Is a network of Internet-Enabled objects, together with web services that interact with these objects. A proposed development of the Internet in which everyday objects have network connectivity, allowing them to send and receive data.

Machine to Machine

M2M refers to technologies that allow both wireless and wired systems to communicate with other devices at the same ability.

M2M process

M2M uses a device such as sensor or meter to capture an event such as temperature, inventory level, etc., which is relayed through a network (wireless, wired or hybrid) to an application (software program), that translates the captured event into meaningful information.

Information Privacy

The interest an individual has in controlling, or at least significantly influencing, the handling of data about themselves.

Wireless Sensor Network

WSN consists of spatially distributed autonomous sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, humidity, motion or pollutants and to cooperatively pass their data through the network to a main location.
