If you were to propose one improvement for Recruitment or the Panhellenic community in 2024 what would it be?

...

What is one person in the Panhellenic community that inspires you?

A person that inspires me is my friend Bella Woods, an AOII. Bella has always kind of been one step ahead of me in life. When I was in Middle School she was in high school, and then when I was starting to think about college, she was already here at UT. She is a senior now, and it's been amazing to watch her grow into the person she is today. She inspired me to go greek because I saw how involved she became on campus, how many wonderful friendships she made, and how it has gotten her to where she is now professionally. She started as AOIIs banner chair her freshmen year because she's a graphic design major and now she has the most amazing internship with Vow'd and Altard State. I hope to get the same things out of my greek life experience.

Name another chapter's philanthropy and talk about it.

Another chapter's philanthropy that I love is ADPI's partnership with Ronald McDonald house. While I have never personally stayed there, I love the organization. I have several close family friends who have had to stay there due to their children being sick, and seen how much it helps them and makes the process easier. I also love that we have one locally so that the ADPI girls can help out often and really see the impact they are making first hand. Same with Phi Mu, they are helping an incredible hospital and get to see their work first hand.

What does the Panhellenic community mean to you?

Coming to a big university as a freshman can be really scary and overwhelming, and it's really hard to find your place and your people without being involved in anything. I feel that the Panhellenic community gives each member a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves, and a place to feel accepted and supported. It also gives us all values to strive for and keeps us in line because we are all keeping one another accountable.

Why are GXs important to a successful recruitment?

GXs are quite literally the backbone of recruitment. A lot of PNMs come in with either no knowledge, some knowledge, or pre-conceived notions. A GX is meant to help make this an equitable experience for all PNMs.

Why do you want to be a GX?

I had a really difficult recruitment process and my GX was my saving grace. I would love to return the favor and be that person for the PNMs coming next year. I also want to see all of the sides to recruitment. I have been a PNM and I have recruited and now I want to be able to build deeper connections with the girls as a GX and gain some leadership experience that I can take back to my chapter and use in my future professional life.

What item would you bring to a deserted island?

I would bring a sleeping bag. Sleep is so very important and the sleeping bag could also be used as a tarp, a roof, a hammock, a hiding place, it could be cut into a bag, etc.

Describe yourself in three words.

I would describe myself as loyal, organized, and thoughtful.

What person would you like to have dinner with and why?

I would have dinner with Taylor Swift because she inspires me in so many ways. Yes her music is amazing and yes she's one of the most popular stars right now but for me it is more than that. She has every right to be entiled and greedy, but instead she is humble and giving. She writes music because it is her passion, not to make money. She also gives food or money to each community she tours through. I strive to be the kind of strong woman that she is.

How would you handle a situation in which a PNM is talking negatively about your chapter?

I would try to separate myself from any potential hurt feelings and have a direct conversation with the PNM. I would say that having opinions is their right, but those need to be kept private as to not influence others. I would also reiterate that all of our chapters here are amazing and should all be given an equal chance.

What would you do in a situation where you have a PNM who was released by a chapter they were a legacy to?

This is a hard situation and one that I experienced in my recruitment process. I would say to them what I would have wanted to hear. 1. You are not your mom, your sister, your aunt, your grandma, etc. what was right for them may not necessarily be right for you and that is OK. 2. Being released does NOT mean you are not good enough or that they do not like you. They just know that you fit better in another chapter and that is OK. 3. It hurts, it does, but I promise when the process is over and you look back, you'll realize that you are exactly where you're supposed to be. In addition to those things I would just be empathetic and encourage them to focus on what they have left and try to picture themselves there.

What does disaffiliation mean to you and why is it important?

To me disaffiliation is temporarily isolating yourself from your chapter in order to give you PNMs the best possible guidance throughout their process. I also think disaffiliating makes hearing negative talk about your chapter or filing possible infractions easier. I feel confident in my ability to completely disaffiliate, and I'm excited at the prospect of getting to run home again at the end of all of it.
