Independent Clause

Can stand alone as a complete sentence

Cannot stand alone as a complete sentence (beings with a subordinating conjunction like since, when, if, because)

Complex Sentence

Dependent Clause + Independent Clause

Run-on sentence

Incorrectly connecting two or more sentences without proper punctuation.

Compound Sentence

Independent Clause + Coordinating Conjunction + Independent Clause

Subordinating Conjunctions

Since, when, if, because, while

Interjection

Surprise word (ouch!)

Direct Address

When you address someone by name, use a comma after the name (Steven, come over here)

Coordinating Conjunctions

but, or, yet, so, for, and, nor (BOYSFAN)
