Abduction

Movement away from the midline of the body

Adduction

Movement toward the midline of the body

Inversion

Turning the sole of the foot inward (medially)

Flexion

decreases the angle of the joint and reduces the distance between the two bones

extension

increases the angle of a joint

Hyperextension

the extreme or overextension of a limb or body part beyond its normal limit

Dorsiflexion

movement that bends the foot or hand upward

Pronation

movement that turns the palm down (radius rotates over ulna)

Eversion

turning the sole of the foot outward (laterally)

plantar flexion

bending of the sole of the foot by curling the toes toward the ground

rotation (medial/lateral)

movement of a bone around its longitudinal axis without lateral or medial displacement
