Lactic Acid is produced in muscles during rapid exercise when the body cannot supply enough oxygen to the tissues.

Lactic Acid produces ATP

When muscles run out of oxygen they produce ATP through Lactic Acid Fermentation

Lack of Oxygen

Without oxygen the body is not able to produce all of the ATP that is required

Lactic Fermentation equation

pyruvic acid + NADH ----> lactic acid + NAD+

Lactic Acid Fermentation

the conversion of pyruvic acid that forms as a result of glycolysis into Lactic acid. This process regenerates NAD so that Glycolysis can continue.
