level of measurement
The quality of data. The terms used to describe the quality of data are nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio. When analyzing data you must be exceedingly conscious of the data's level of measurement because many statistical analyses can only be applied to data that possess a certain level of measurement.
Qualitative data
are measurements that can change in kind, but not in degree. It often consist of labels or descriptions and do not have naturally occurring numerical values.
Quantitative variables
are measurements that change in magnitude from trial to trial such that some order or ranking can be applied. It can be measured using a naturally occurring numerical scale.
Ratio Data
are similar to interval data, except that they have a meaningful zero point and the ratio of two data points is meaningful.
