Spring/plantar calcaneonavicular ligament

Attachments = Ant margin sustentaculum tali (calcaneus) ---> plantar surface navicular Function = Supports the head of the talus - very elastic; hence spring Sustains medial longitudinal arch

Short plantar ligament (plantar calcaneocuboid)

Attachments = Calcaneus (ant tubercle) ---> plantar surface cuboid Function = Short, wide, strong Resists depression of lateral longitudinal arch

Plantar aponeurosis

Attachments = Calcaneus (med process of tuberosity) ---> longitudinal bands to each toe Function = Supports longitudinal arch

Lateral collateral ligament (of ankle)

Attachments = Consists of 3 separate ligaments: -Anterior talofibular: ant. Border + tip of lateral malleolus ---> neck of talus -Calcaneofibular: tip of lateral malleolus ---> middle of lat surface of calcaneus Posterior talofibular: malleolar fossa of lat malleolus ---> upper surface of post process of talus Function = Strained during plantarflexion + inversion

MCL/Deltoid Ligament

Attachments = Fan-shaped ligament extending from the borders of the tibial malleolus and contains Anterior tibiotalar, Posterior tibiotalar, Tibiocalcaneal, Tibionavicular Function = Extremely strong, forces that would open the medial aspect ofthe ankle joint tend to result in avulsion factors of the tibial malleolus, rather than tearing of the deltoid ligament

Interosseus talocalcaneal ligament

Attachments = Located in sinus tarsi Function = Firmly joints the talus + calcaneus

Long plantar ligament

Attachments = Plantar surface calcaneus ---> cuboid (deep fibers) + bases MTs 2-4 (5) (superficial fibers). Function = Supports calcaneocuboid joint Strongest ligament in resisting depression of lateral longitudinal arch

Bifurcate ligament

Attachments = Spans the distance between the calcaneus and the cuboid/navicular (2 portions) Function = Resists movement between the calcaneus, cuboid and navicular.
