Emotional appeal

tries to persuade the reader by using words that appeal to the reader's emotions instead of to logic or reason.Example: An example'Were you ever bullied, and do you remember how it felt? Every child deserves to be loved, not bullied.' An example of an ethical appeal is, 'I donate annually to all of these charities, and volunteer when I am able.'

Plain folks appeal

trying to show that a person or product is good for "ordinary" people because a person is "just like you and understands you" Example: The plain folks appeal is used in propaganda writing.

Bandwagon appeal

A claim that a listener should accept an argument because of how many other people have alrea"dy accepted it. Example:2 EXAMPLE 2 Radio Ad: "Zippo - the grand old lighter that's made right here in the good old U.S. of A." This ad implies that Zippo brand cigarette lighters are the American standard, like Marlboro and the Dallas Cowboys (dubbed "America's Team"). The Zippo company's warrant is this: If everyone else is buying this brand, then we all should too. Logic, however, tells us that we need a better reason than peer pressure or popularity.

appeal to authority

A fallacy in which a speaker or writer seeks to persuade not by giving evidence but by appealing to the respect people have for a famous person or institution. Example Marilyn vos Savant says that no philosopher has ever successfully resolved the problem of evil.act:

appeal to loyalty

Appeal to one's sense of pride and/or loyalty to a certain person, belief, organization. Example:B questions A's statement of x. Anyone who questions A is disloyal. Therefore, B is wrong.

SNOB APPEAL

Arguments that distract by making the audience want to feel "special.Example:Snob appeal is where an appeal is made to the authority

Snarl words

Loaded words that have powerful negative connotations.Example:emotinal words

Logical appeal

attempting to persuade through appealing to the reader's sense of reason.Example:An example of a logical or rational appeal would be, 'He needs to stop smoking because it has been proven by studies to cause health problems.

descriptive words that have positive emotions associated with them. Example:he terms snarl words and purr words were coined by S. I. Hayakawa ... Journalism (UBC Press, 2006), Nick Russell offers several examples of "loaded" words:.

weasel words

modifiers that look substantial but are meaningless Example: not a word that means nothing.
