Is a rugged individual. He is intimidating, strong, and he is the oldest of the boys. He uses his powers to hunt or kill. He has a weapon, his knife, that is a formidable symbol of authority an power. Jack is a military leader who depends on his strength to rule. This is similar to any military, but also of a man in general and in the code of survival of the fittest. Jack is not a savage because he hunts, it is the way he hunts and the way he does things that make him savage.

Simon

Is also an individual but of a more introverted nature. He has insight and a very humane reasoning. His ideas are not mechanical, but understanding. His is a more spiritual civilization. His reasoning is similar to Ralph's but more fragile beacuse he can see himself in the same way that he sees other human situations. When he suggests that the beastie is them he is including himself beacuse fear in a human emotion. Simon is intuitve, mystical, and has Christ like characterisitics. Simon was the first boy that was killed on the island.
