LUOA Earth Science M8 Review Part 7
How do Meteorologists predict weather?
Meteorologists use tools, observations and their knowledge of weather patterns to predict how the Earth's atmosphere will interact and affect our planet. They also interact with other countries.
They have an instrument package called radiosondes attached. They are launched into the atmosphere from the ground where they transmit data back to a receiving station on the ground. Data collected—temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and atmospheric pressure—are compiled and analyzed.
Weather Balloons
Enables scientists to provide long-term observations, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Weather Satellites
A weather map that presents a summary or synopsis of weather data for a given time frame.
synoptic weather map
Involving statistical techniques such as multiple regression analysis to determine the relative contribution of the advertising budget to sales
Computer Simulation Model
Shows everything in the sky, from severe weather to birds and mosquitoes to tornado debris. Upgraded software and hardware, known as dual-polarization technology or dual-pol for short will attach to the radar dish and distinguish between rain, snow, hail, and other flying objects that muddy the radar picture.
Radar Data
Why is it hard for Meteorologists to predict weather?
The constant rising and falling of storms makes it hard to predict long term weather
