Christmas Trees

Production in Denmark totalled around 9 million trees and Denmark is one of Europe's largest producers of natural Christmas trees. Between 1999 and 2007 Danish tree production jumped from 6-7 to 9-12 million trees annually.

Faeroe Islands

The North Atlantic archipelago of 18 major islands 200 miles northwest of Scotland, halfway between Norway and Iceland, which is an "autonomous territory" within the Kingdom of Denmark. The islands have a total area of about 540 square miles and a population of about 52,500.

Lego

A privately held company based in Billund, Denmark. The company began manufacturing the toy bricks in 1949 and since then films, games, competitions, and six Legoland amusement parks have been developed under the brand. By 2015, 600 billion Lego parts had been produced and Lego replaced Ferrari as Brand Finance's "world's most powerful brand", at certain points, investing in Lego sets was more valuable than investing in gold.

Hans Christian Anderson

Danish author and a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, best remembered for his fairy tales, consisting of 156 stories across nine volumes and translated into more than 125 languages. His most famous fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Little Mermaid".

Carlsberg

Danish multinational brewer, founded in 1847 in Copenhagen. The company's flagship brand is named after the founder's son Carl. It also brews Tuborg, Kronenbourg, Somersby cider, and more than 500 local beers.

Denmark is a leading producer of pork, and the largest exporter of pork products in the EU.

Copenhagen

The capital and most populous city of Denmark, situated on the eastern coast of the island of Zealand; separated from Malmö in Sweden, by the strait of Oresund, the Oresund Bridge connecting the two cities by both rail and road. Originally a Viking fishing village established in the 10th century, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century.

Jutland

The peninsula comprising the continental portion of Denmark and part of northern Germany, name after the Jutes who originally lived there. Denmark is also comprised of its archipelago of 443 named islands, the largest being Zealand, Funen and the North Jutlandic Island.

Greenland

The world's largest island, and is an "autonomous territory" within the Kingdom of Denmark. Though geographically in North America, it has been politically and culturally linked to Denmark, as well as the nearby Iceland) for more than a thousand years. Most of its residents are Inuit, whose ancestors migrated from Alaska through Northern Canada, gradually settling across the island by the 13th century.

Vikings

Inhabitants of Denmark and other Scandinavian countries from the 8th to the 10th century. They colonised, raided, and traded in all parts of Europe, and the Danish were most active in the British Isles and Western Europe. They conquered and settled parts of England (known as the Danelaw) under King Sweyn Forkbeard in 1013, and France, founding Normandy.
